The Master programme in Mathematics at the University of Poitiers consists currently of four specialities
They lead to the degree Master « Mathématiques et Applications » together with the speciality chosen. This is a 2 year course, which involves both taught classes in mathematics and individual professional or research projects.
The speciality MFA is an ideal preparation for entry to a PhD programme in Mathematics, and also for the French recruitment examination « Agrégation ». The classes proposed in the perspective of entering a PhD programme are oriented towards the themes of the research of the « Laboratoire de Mathématiques et Applications » (CNRS UMR 6086).
The speciality MMAS is oriented towards direct applications of mathematics, especially Probability Theory and Statistics. The training proposed by this speciality leads naturally to a career in mathematical engineering. It is also possible to pursue a PhD programme in joint projects of laboratories of the University with both the private and public sectors.
The speciality EFM is designed for students who wish to take the French examination « CAPES » for a teaching position in primary and secondary schools in France.
The speciality EFMSPC is designed for students who wish to take the French examination « CAPLP » for a teaching position in technical secondary schools in France.
Please visit the website of these specialities for contacts and more detailed information.
To be accepted to the Master programme, a high standard in a mathematically based undergraduate degree must have been achieved, equivalent to the French « Licence » degree in Mathematics.
